Course Description:

The workshop is an introduction to engineering and is based on the system of robotic applications Lego Mindstorms. The exercises cover robotics issues, basic knowledge of mechanics, automatic control, planning systems and software. The workshop provides an opportunity for students to engage in the development of various robotic systems, planning and test them. The culmination of the laboratory course is the Robo-Pong contest in which students participate in groups with an autonomous moving robot which they must develop for this purpose.

The workshop includes exercises using different developed robots, as well as, specialized devices fitted to them to perform certain actions (eg, collision avoidance system). The robotic systems are equipped with the appropriate sensors (light, ultrasonic, rotation, touch, sound) and actuators (electric motors) and they are programmed such that they can operate autonomously, performing different actions assigned to them.

Outcomes:

  • Learn to apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering.
  • Learn to design and implement a system to meet desired needs.
  • Develop the ability to work in teams and to communicate effectively with others.
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of the design process by applying it to solve engineering problems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot engineering problems.
  • Ability to learn computational tools.
